Screen Dims While Watching Netflix

With the increasing number of OTT content, people are able to stream online videos which are easily accessible through OTT platforms like Netflix on mobile phones and tablets, or even via Smart T.V. However, sometimes the screen dims while watching Netflix videos due to certain reasons and thus ruining the show experience. Thus, to fix this issue, let’s discuss some ways to eradicate it.

  • To Resolve the Brightness Issue in Mobile Phones and Tablets:
  1. Reboot The Phone

Before opting for any other troubleshooting procedure, try restarting the device first. Rebooting might reset the settings that might have been causing the phone to dim during watching Netflix.

2. Adjust App Brightness

The Netflix app itself has a native control to change the brightness while playing videos. This setting is mostly behind the brightness issue. Reset this as per the requirement. These brightness controls are not available in the Netflix app settings but are given on the now-playing screen of any video. So, to change the brightness level, follow:

  • Turn ‘On’ a video on the app.
  • Tap on the screen so that the video settings like play, pause, subtitles, etc. are visible.
  • Locate the ‘Slider’ available on the left.
  • To change the brightness slide it up or down manually to increase or reduce the level as per requirement.

3. Watch Netflix Via Picture-In-Picture Mode

Sometimes the brightness issue in the Netflix app while playing videos can be rectified by playing the show via picture-in-picture mode. To switch to picture-in-picture mode, follow:

  • Open the Netflix app.
  • Turn ‘On’ the video you want to watch.
  • Hit the ‘Home’ button. As soon as the home screen appears the video will enter into a pop-up screen. This is when the video is in picture-in-picture mode.

  1. Update the App

The brightness issue can arise because of a bug in the system. Try updating the Netflix app to fix the issue. The app can easily get updated via the Google play store.

  1. Disable Enhancer Settings

Certain phones provide a video enhancer set. Sometimes enabling a video enhancer can cause the screen to dim. Try disabling it and then verify whether the issue is fixed or not. To turn off the video enhancer setting, follow:

  • Open ‘Settings’.
  • Click on ‘Advanced Settings’.
  • Finally, click on ‘Disable Video Enhancer’.
  1. Reset Battery Controls

Sometimes the battery settings of the mobile phones are set in a way that they automatically dim the screen when the battery level is reduced to a certain level to save the battery life. Make sure to remove such settings to watch Netflix without hindrance due to brightness issues. To change this, follow:

  • Open ‘Settings’.
  • Tap on the ‘Battery’ option.
  • Set the controls as needed.
  1. Reset the Third-Party Apps

Sometimes the third-party apps meant for controlling the brightness or for monitoring the device temperature are the reason behind the Netflix brightness issue. Try disabling or uninstalling them.

  1. Re-download the App

Try re-downloading Netflix software, if none of the above solutions are able to fix the screen dimness issue while using Netflix. Both uninstalling and reinstalling the Netflix app can be done through Google Play Store.

  1. Install Different Versions of App Using APK

If both updating and reinstalling fail to fix the app’s brightness problem, then try installing a different version of Netflix using APK. It is seen that sometimes the different version has the bug fixed which was responsible for the dimness issue.

To Resolve the Brightness Issue in Smart TV:

1. Restart the TV

Unplug the TV. Keep its ‘Power Off’ for a minimum of one minute.

Meanwhile, keep holding the ‘Power’ button of the TV for 5 seconds. This will discharge it.

Note: If you are unable to access the power button, keep the TV ‘Off’ for a minimum of three minutes.

After that ‘Power On’ the TV again.

‘Switch On’ the TV.

Restart Netflix to verify that whether the problem is fixed or not.

  1. Ask the device manufacturer

Sometimes the video or power settings of the TV are responsible for causing Netflix to darken the screen while playing. Try contacting the device manufacturer to help to change these controls.
